Prototype Information

Amfleet II Cars Were A Stable Of Amtrak's Low Level Fleet And During The 1990's Ran On Both The West Coast (Los Angeles To San Diego) And On Many East Coast Trains. - Today These Cars Can Still Be Seen On Many East Coast Trains, Some Still Painted In The Phase IV Paint Scheme.

The Viewliner Cars Were Built As An Experiment For Use As New Low Level Cars On East Trains Where Low "Tunnel" Clearences Do Not Allow For The Use Of "Superliner" Or Bi-Level Cars.

A Sleeper And Diner Model Were Made. While Only A Few Production Models Ever Made It To The Road, The Sleepers Are Still Used Today On East Coast Amtrak Trains. They Offer The Sleeping Car Passengers Two Windows Which Allows For More Light To Enter And Also Also For A Upper Window When The "Top" Sleeper Bunk Bed Is Lowered. The Feature Is Something That Is Not Found On Any Other Current Amtrak Cars.

Amtrak Has Just Recently Placed An Order For Additional Low Level Sleeping Cars That Will Be Based Off The Viewliners Design.
